Having recently transferred from Huntsville to a new office in Birmingham, I've found that I have a lot more spare time at work than I did previously. Most likely, this sudden influx of idle time comes from the fact that I do not know the people in this new office very well. Having worked at the Huntsville office for five years, socialization with my co-workers had grown to occupy a significant part of my day. But while the members of this new hive seem like a nice crop of worker bees, I've only been with them for a couple of weeks, so friendly chatter is at a minimum.

In the meantime, I need something to do, lest I drift off to sleep at my desk.

An online journal seems like it should be a decent distraction for me. At least posting here may help sustain the illusion that I am hard at work. And if nothing else, with blogs all the rage lately, I figured I'd better jump on the bandwagon before all the good names were taken.
